The Government’s Disability Confident initiative is an accreditation scheme which aims to help employers make the most of the opportunities provided by employing disabled people. The scheme has 3 levels that have been designed to support employers on their accreditation journey.

Any business or organisation in the scheme is playing a leading role in changing attitudes for the better. They’re changing behaviour and cultures in their own businesses, networks and communities, and reaping the benefits of inclusive recruitment practices.

My Approach

Assess

  • initial assessment of current practices, policies, and attitudes towards disability inclusion
  • Identify areas where improvements can be made to enhance accessibility, inclusivity, and support for individuals with visual impairments
  • Assess the employer’s understanding of the Disability Confident Scheme and their level of engagement with its principles

Develop

  • Collaborate with employers to develop tailored action plans for achieving and progressing through the different levels of the Disability Confident Scheme
  • Provide guidance on inclusive recruitment strategies, reasonable adjustments, and accessible workplace practices for employees with visual impairments
  • Offer training sessions or workshops to raise awareness and educate employees about visual impairments, accessibility, and disability inclusion
  • Assist in the development of inclusive policies, procedures, and guidelines to create an inclusive work environment

Support

  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to the employer throughout their journey with the Disability Confident Scheme.
  • Offer best practices to help employers implement inclusive approaches and meet the requirements of the scheme

  • improve employee morale and commitment by demonstrating that you treat all employees fairly

It also helps customers and other businesses identify those employers who are committed to equality in the workplace.
